Indiana Jones CostumeBut... first I'll give you a little background and history on Indiana Jones.

The Indiana Jones story is quite interesting and you might find it more enjoyable to know a little background before you make your Halloween Costume selections.

Indiana Jones CostumesIndiana Jones, played by , was first introduced in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, set in 1936.

Indaina Jones is portrayed as an adventurous throwback to the 1930s films of serial treasure hunters and pulp action heroes, with an alter ego of Doctor Jones, a respected archaeologist at Marshall College... a fictional college in Connecticut.

The Nazis are led by Jones's archrival, a Nazi-sympathizing French archaeologist named René, and Arnold Toht, a sinister Gestapo agent.

In 1984 the movie, , set in 1935, took the character into a more horror-oriented story, skipping his legitimate teaching job and globe trotting, and taking place almost entirely in India.

This time, Jones attempts to recover children and the Sankara Stones from the bloodthirsty Thuggee cult.

Young Indiana Jones in The Last Crusade his third film, 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, set in 1938, returned to the formula of the original, reintroducing characters such as Sallah and Marcus Brody.  You also saw  a scene from Professor Jones's classroom, the globe trotting element of multiple locations, and the return of the infamous Nazi mystics, this time trying to find the Holy Grail.

The film's introduction, set in 1912, provided some back story to the character, specifically the origin of his fear of snakes, his use of a bullwhip, the scar on his chin, and his hat.

The film was a buddy movie of sorts, teaming Jones with his father, often to comical effect.

Although Lucas the director intended at the time to do five films, this ended up being the last, as Lucas could not think of a good plot element to drive the next installment.

The 2008 film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, became the latest film in the series. Set in 1957, some 19 years after the third film, it pits an older, wiser Indiana Jones against Soviet agents bent on harnessing the power of a crystal skull discovered in South America by his former colleague.

Indiana aided in his adventure by an old lover, Marion Ravenwood, and her son—a young greaser named Mutt , later revealed to be his biological child Henry Jones III.

Ok... that's enough history for now.  Now its time to talk about Indiana Jones Costumes... the reason you came to my page.

Theme Park Paris

Planning a trip to France with the kids but don't know where to go? Looking for theme park excitement in Europe to rival that of America? Then why not visit Paris - not only is it one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but it also has two great theme parks nearby, which kids will love. Enter the cartoon world of Gaul at Parc Asterix or mingle with Mickey, Minnie and company at Disneyland Paris.

Parc Asterix

Introduction

This quintessentially French theme park brings to life one of France's most popular comic book cartoons of all time - Asterix de Gaul, a small and quirky warrior living in Armorica in 50 BC, in the only part of Gaul not to be conquered by the Romans. The amusing stories in the comic books focus on Asterix, his kind-hearted and somewhat rotund best friend Obelix, and the local druid Getafix (Panoramix in French) who prepares magic potions for them.

Location

The park is located approximately 30 kilometres (20 miles) north of Paris, north of Charles de Gaulle airport on the A1 Paris to Lille motorway.

Attractions

There are some exhilarating and hair-raising rides, all loosely based on a classical themes - there's the Thunder of Zeus - the largest wooden rollercoaster in Europe, the swinging Roman galley ship, the Trojan horse and the death-defying Goudurix loop-the-loop ride, as well as flying chairs, log flumes and other popular theme park favourites.

Shows

There's always plenty of entertainment going on when you want a break from the rides. Meet your favourite characters at the costume parade - they're held several times a day, or go back in time to a Gaulish Village Festival, where there are lots of great activities and funny goings-on daily. The dolphin and sea lion show is captivating, and the Panoramix Magic Show will leave you spellbound. And that's not all - there are several different stage performances throughout the day, in which Asterix and his friends get involved in great high jinks and adventures.

Restaurants

Being a French theme park, the food here is of course excellent and there's a huge variety of eating places to choose from, whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a snack. There's a great pizzeria, a tasty creperie and a delicious burger bar to name just a few. All the restaurants are themed too - there's a medieval banqueting hall, a circus buffet in a colourful big top tent, a Gaulish tavern and a Roman villa.
Shops

You can get Asterix souvenirs in all shapes and sizes, from t-shirts and mugs to helmets and swords. There are stalls and boutiques all over the park, so you can get whatever you want, whenever you want. If you're looking for other gifts and souvenirs, there are some wonderful shops selling Egyptian, Roman and Greek themed ornaments, crafts and clothes.

Accommodation

Hotel des Trois Hiboux is the only accommodation within the park itself, but it's a wondeful place to stay and offers great value for money. The facilities in this three-star hotel are excellent - there's a cosy lounge with a roaring fireplace, a games room for children and a bar with a terrace. Nearby hotels include Novotel, Kyriad, Campanile and Mercure, so you'll never be stuck for somewhere to stay.

Disneyland Paris

Introduction

Disney's only theme park in Europe is very similar in style to the parks in America. The Magic Kingdom comprises four different lands, all of which converge on Main Street USA - an early 20th century themed street with horses, trams and vintage cars. Fantasyland is a world of fairytales and is aimed at young children. There's Sleeping Beauty's castle, Snow White's house and Alice in Wonderland's maze. Peter Pan, Dumbo and Pinocchio also put in an appearance. Frontierland is a gold rush themed area with Pocahontas Indian Village, a shooting gallery, Big Thunder Mountain and Wild West legends all around. Adventureland sweeps you through marvellous exotic lands from Aladdin's Enchanted Passage to the Pirates of the Caribbean lagoon. Discoveryland is a wonderful area of science and space.

Attractions

All the most popular attractions from the American parks are recreated in Disneyland Paris. There's the terrifying Space Mountain, the Mad Hatters' Teacups, It's a Small World, the Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain and Indiana Jones and the .

Shows

No trip to a Disney theme park would be complete without a parade where you can meet your favourite Disney characters. There are parades in various parts of the park all day, so you'll never miss out. Some of the excellent stage show performances include The Lion King, The Tarzan Encounter and Winnie the Pooh and Friends Too.

Restaurants

Every zone has its own range of eating places to cater for all tastes and appetites at any time of day. Some of the best ones are Victoria's Homestyle Restaurant in Main Street USA, which serves wholesome, traditional American dishes such as meat pie and chocolate brownies. The Cowboy Cookout in Frontierland is a mouth-watering barbeque restaurant with country music and dancing, while Buzz Lightyear's Pizza Planet serves pizzas in an intergalactic atmosphere.

Shops

You won't have any bother finding a souvenir of your favourite Disney character - there's a huge selection of soft toys in many of the shops dotted around the park, from old classics like Winnie the Pooh to the space-age Buzz Lightyear. The shops in Discoveryland have some weird and wonderful scientific gadgets and gizmos, while Adventureland has exotic gifts and souvenirs from far-flung lands. Budding cowboys can kit themselves out at the Bonanza store in Frontierland, from Stetson hat to boot spurs.

Accommodation

It's rather expensive to stay in the resort itself, although for a real treat it is very good fun. Disneyland Hotel on Main Street USA is the most expensive, while Davey Crockett's Ranch is the cheapest option. The cosy log cabins are about quarter of an hour's drive from the park. Other hotels outside the park include the Radisson SAS, Kyriad, Holiday Inn and Pierre et Vacances Hotel.

costume for christmas ruel de guzman as indiana jones ligaya domingo ...

The Secret of Indiana Jones' Hat

It's ok.

Really. You're not alone. There are thousands more people like you. And me.

You want Indiana Jones' hat.

You don't have any reason except...well, you want one. If you lived 75 years ago, it wouldn't even be a question: of course you'd own a hat. And you'd feel naked if you left the house without it.

After all, just look at it! The sharp brim. The distinctive shape. The flavor of class and dignity that comes with that 1930s style.

Ah, the fedora!

But, in an age of superstores, low prices and lower quality, where does one acquire such a thing of beauty?

For me, the answer was obvious: why not contact the man who made Harrison Ford's hat? Marc Kitter, along with his partner Steve Delk, hand-made all the fedoras used in the latest Indiana Jones film, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the ".

Bernie Pollack, costume designer for "" contacted Kitter. "He'd been told that that Steve and I had specialized ourselves on the Indy fedora and wanted to know if we could answer some questions. After quizzing us on brim widths, crown heights, ribbon width, fur quality and many other details, Pollack asked us for some samples. We sent in several sample hats and could do nothing but wait."

According to Pollack, Spielberg had been worried. "Ah, I'm so relieved he [Spielberg] said. I lost sleep wondering if you would be able to come up with the perfect hat."

Kitter said, "But, after a test shooting with Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg, the dream came true and we got the order. My wife went on vacation and we started making hats up to 18 hours a day."
Eighteen hours a day? If that sounds like a lot, it helps to know what goes into making a real Indiana Jones fedora. The best fedoras are made from fur-felt, never wool. In fact, the highest quality fedora is made from beaver.

It's a long and difficult process. The fur is manipulated, treated and transformed into actual "felt", arguably the toughest fabric known to man. (The fibers are interlocked and arranged in every possible direction making it almost impossible to tear.)

"The pure beaver felt used on my hats are specially made to my specs from a traditional manufacturer. This is the highest density felt I've ever worked with; and that adds to the durability of the final hat. We even add water-repellant to the felt during the manufacturing process."

From there, the best fedoras are hand-crafted over a wooden block. "Wooden hat blocks have the advantage of letting the felt "breath" while it dries on them. This is one of the many details that isn't always visible but prove valuable in the long haul."

Ironically, one of the most important pieces of a high-quality fedora might be something that you rarely see: the sweatband. Since this is the only part of the hat that actually touches the wearer's head, having the right material ensures comfort and durability.

Kitter's hats use exclusive sweatbands made from kangeroo hide; the hides are traditionally tanned by a family-owned company in Australia. From there, they're cut and turned into the most shrink resistant leather sweatbands available, known and loved by customers all over the world.

The finishing touch is the lining of the hat made from the highest quality bridal satin. "It looks and feels like silk but it's more resistant to dust and sweat."

The whole process can take more than 14 hours by hand and it shows.

So...what makes the so unique?

"The Indy Fedora is a classic brown snap brim Fedora with a contrasting dark brown ribbon, but the -- as is always the case with quality -- the devil is in the details," said Kitter.

"The blockshape used for the Indy Fedora is very uncommon nowadays. Today most classic hats have a tapered crown and are made from lightweight felt, mainly pure rabbit or rabbit beaver blends.

But, even if you never have to worry about wearing your fedora through the jungles of South America or racing the Russians for an ancient artifact, you still deserve a hat that will survive normal living.

"A high-quality fedora should be able to protect you from the elements, not the other way around. The hat should withstand heavy downpours, hot and humid summer days, snow....but it should do it with style. So, you'll be able to wear the same hat to the restaurant at night," Kitter says.

In other words, an authentic Indy fedora will get you positive feedback on a luxury cruise due to its velvet-like silky surface...but it's just as appropriate with jeans and work-boots.

So, whether you're looking for that final touch of class to go with a great suit and tie or you're excavating the garden to make room for the begonias, the classic Indiana Jones fedora is the perfect addition to your wardrobe.

And yes, mine's on the way.

80s for the Oughties

Everything old is new again, be it in literature, cinema, sports or, yes, parties. And there's no bigger or better party to enjoy than Halloween, the one day a year that everyone can cut loose and have fun without having to inhabit your own skin.

In that spirit, then, it's a good idea to take a look at the best 80s halloween costumes the world has to offer, since the 80s are the new oughties. The days of Reaganomics, Gordon Gecco and John Hughes (rest in peace!) are all back upon us, and if you want the best 80s halloween costumes, those are all good places to start.

Going as Gordon Gecco, for example, is a perfect idea for an 80s halloween costumes. Gecco, for those who don't remember, was the antagonist in the 1987 hit film "Wall Street," starring Charlie Sheen as an idealistic young stockbroker who is corrupted by both the process and Gecco himself, played brilliantly by Michael Douglass. Gecco cuts a stereotypical 80s figure: Slicked back hair, armani suit, martini clutched in one hand and brick-sized cellphone in the other. If you decide to go as Gecco for your costume, that's where you start. But to differentiate it from other 80s halloween costumes of that ilk, you can go a step further.

Gecco's famous line in the film, a line oft repeated facetiously in some circles and reverently in others, is "Greed is good." Oliver Stone intended the line to encapsulate everything not only about Gecco himself and the financial community in general, but also the time and place that were the 1980s. So if you're going as Gordon Gecco, you need to work "Greed is good" into your costume. My suggestion would be something as simple as taping a sign with that phrase to your back. If you come up with something even better, go for it.

Some 80s halloween costumes that my girlfriend and I have kicked around without actually doing over the years center on two other films from that decade that we both love. First is " and the Temple of Doom." I would go as Indy, and she would go as Short Round. For those who don't remember, Short Round was the 10 year old asian boy sidekick to Indy on that particular adventure. The idea works on a lot of levels if you think about it, many of them funny and wholly inappropriate.

Another of the 80s halloween costumes we've considered is getting a bunch of friends together and going as The Goonies. Coincidentally, the actor who plays Short Round also plays Data in The Goonies, so if you have an asian friend who's willing to play the token role, get him or her aboard and go from there.

Two other great ensemble ideas from movies of that time are going as either the Ghostbusters or The Breakfast Club. Both are iconic 80s films that almost anyone would recognize off the bat, and can be a lot of fun to dress up as.
